Discovering “Small Town Autism”

Small Town Autism

I recently have had the pleasure of connecting with a new blogger Kelly, who is the mastermind behind the blog “Small Town Autism“.  Kelly is the mother of  two children, one of which has been diagnosed with Autism, OCD and SPD. She blogs about raising her autistic daughter in a rural small town in Tennessee.

I first read the most recent post and then just. could. not. stop. reading! Before I knew it I had read her whole blog. Her daughter is absolutely precious! Hayley and my Monkey seem alike in many ways. As a fellow special needs mom, I love that I can relate to almost every thing she posts. Her blog entries are REAL stories about the REAL challenges, emotions and triumphs that come with raising an extra special kiddo!

Read her bio below….

I am a single work-at-home mom to two awesome kids, one of which is also ausome! Hayley just turned 5 years old, and she was diagnosed with ASD, OCD, and SPD 7 months ago. About 3 weeks ago, she was also diagnosed with Hyperlexia. We live in a small town in a rural area, and I never knew what a struggle it was to get diagnosis and treatment for special needs children in  a small town until it happened to me. Thank goodness for the internet and other ausome moms and dads – it has meant the world to me to know I am not alone, so I created this blog to reach out and try to help others facing the same struggle.

I am VERY excited that she has joined the “blogosphere” and that I have had a chance to connect with Kelly. I look forward to following her journey and I encourage you to do the same. I promise, you will not be disappointed!

  2. Thank you SO much for the post, and for your kind comments. I was a stressed-out wreck until I discovered all the wonderful, warm, kind people online that share so much of themselves and their lives with these wonderful special needs kids! It made me feel so much less alone, especially on the days I’m ready to pull my hair out.
